How to Get from Bodrum Airport to Your Resort: 2027 Bodrum Peninsula Transport Guide

Updated 8 min readAuthor: Mavi Transfer

Bodrum-Milas Airport (BJV) is about 36 km from Bodrum town, roughly a 35–45 minute drive in normal traffic. If you are staying further out, at Turgutreis, Akyarlar or Gümüşlük on the western tip of the peninsula, allow 56–59 km and around an hour. Your choices are the Havaş or Muttaş airport bus plus a dolmuş, a taxi, a hire car or a pre-booked transfer.

This guide goes resort by resort so you can see how far your hotel or villa actually is and whether public transport is realistic with children and suitcases. We are not comparing prices here; private transfer fares for each route appear instantly on the route pages.

Your Options from Bodrum Airport at a Glance

Airport bus (Havaş or Muttaş) plus dolmuş

Two airport bus operators serve Bodrum: Havaş, part of the TAV group, and Muttaş, run by Muğla Metropolitan Municipality. Both go to Bodrum's old bus station in the town centre, stopping at Güvercinlik and the new bus station at the Torba junction. The ride takes 35–45 minutes depending on traffic.

  • Departures are timed around flight arrivals rather than a fixed timetable, and they are geared mainly to domestic flights. Coming in on an international flight, check before you count on it.

  • No advance tickets or seat reservations: you queue, board and pay on the bus (cards accepted as of 2026).

  • For Gümbet, Bitez, Turgutreis, Gümüşlük or Göltürkbükü you change to a dolmuş (shared minibus) at the bus station. Dolmuşes reach almost every corner of the peninsula but run less often at weekends and on public holidays.

It works well for a solo traveller with a backpack arriving in daylight. For a family with a buggy and three cases, the change at the bus station quickly loses its appeal.

Taxi

Taxis wait around the clock outside both the domestic and the international terminal. They run on the meter, so the fare climbs noticeably the further west or north you go. Make sure the meter is switched on when you set off.

Hire car

Plenty of rental desks sit in the arrivals halls. A car makes sense if you plan to explore different bays every day, but parking in Gümbet, Bitez and Yalıkavak is tight in July and August, and the peninsula's winding roads are not much fun after a late flight.

Shared or private transfer?

A shared transfer collects passengers from the same flight and drops them at several hotels in turn, so the last stop can take a while. With a private transfer, the vehicle is reserved only for your party and goes straight to your address. Mavi Transfer's shared shuttle lines are focused on Dalaman and Datça; on the Bodrum peninsula the service is a private airport transfer.

Step by Step After Landing

  1. Passport and bags: After passport control and the baggage belt you come out into the arrivals hall. In peak summer, with several charter flights landing together, this can take 30–45 minutes.

  2. Switch your phone on: If you have booked a transfer, the driver's details will be waiting by SMS. Using a UK or EU SIM? Sort out roaming or an eSIM before you fly so the driver can reach you.

  3. A little cash: Cards work on buses and dolmuşes, but a few Turkish lira for snacks and tips is handy; there are ATMs and exchange desks in the terminal.

  4. Find your ride: Bus stops and the taxi rank are right outside the terminal; a transfer driver waits at the exit with a name board.

Bodrum Town, Gümbet and Bitez

Bodrum town is the easiest place to reach without a car because the airport bus terminates there. The bus station sits a short walk behind the castle and marina, so if your hotel is in the old town you may not need anything else.

Gümbet is just over the hill from Bodrum and dolmuşes run frequently. Its narrow streets clog up on summer evenings, though. A Bodrum Airport to Gümbet transfer drops you at the hotel door without the bus-station change.

Bitez is the quieter, family-friendly bay next door, lined with tangerine groves and beach restaurants. Hotels are spread along the shore, so you may face a walk from the dolmuş stop. With children and luggage, a private transfer from the airport to Bitez is the least stressful option.

Turgutreis and Akyarlar

Turgutreis is the largest resort on the west of the peninsula, known for its marina, Saturday market and sunsets. It is roughly 56 km from the airport. By public transport you take the airport bus to Bodrum, then a westbound dolmuş, which can add up to two hours door to door. A Bodrum Airport to Turgutreis private transfer does it in about an hour.

Akyarlar lies just south of Turgutreis, a small, low-key spot popular with windsurfers. At around 59 km it is one of the furthest points in the table. Dolmuşes on the Turgutreis line will get you close; for late arrivals, an Akyarlar transfer is the simpler choice.

Gümüşlük

With the ruins of ancient Myndos and its line of fish restaurants on the water, Gümüşlük is one of the calmest corners of the peninsula. Traffic is restricted in the village itself, so vehicles stop at the car park near the entrance and you walk the last few hundred metres if you are staying by the harbour. It is about 59 km from the airport. When booking a Bodrum Airport to Gümüşlük transfer, give your full address so the driver can get you as close as possible.

The North Coast: Gündoğan, Göltürkbükü and Gölköy

The northern bays are reached via the turn-off at Torba, so they are quicker to get to than the far south-west.

  • Gündoğan: about 49 km. A relaxed, family-friendly bay. For a villa, simply share the exact address when you book your Gündoğan transfer.

  • Göltürkbükü: about 45 km. Famous for its jetty beach clubs; the coast road through the bay can be slow on summer evenings. A Bodrum Airport to Göltürkbükü transfer takes you to the hotel or jetty.

  • Gölköy: right next to Türkbükü, about 52 km by Mavi Transfer's route calculation. From Bodrum bus station the Gölköy–Türkbükü dolmuş takes around 35–40 minutes. To skip the change, there is a direct Gölköy transfer.

Yalıkavak, with its marina on the north-west coast, is about 52–55 km away and takes 55–70 minutes.

Practical Tips for Arriving at BJV

  • Know your terminal: Bodrum-Milas has separate domestic and international terminals. Adding your flight number to the booking means the driver waits at the right one. The official airport website has up-to-date terminal information.

  • Meeting your driver: Mavi Transfer drivers wait at the terminal exit holding a sign with your name. The car's registration and the driver's details are sent by SMS before pick-up.

  • Delays: If your flight is late because of the airline, the driver waits and there is no extra charge.

  • Summer traffic: Friday and Saturday mornings and 5–7 pm are the busiest times on the Bodrum road; plan your return trip with that in mind.

  • Going home by bus: As of 2026 the bus station recommends catching the airport bus about 2 hours before a domestic flight and at least 3 hours before an international one.
