Active Holidays in Datça: Diving, Windsurfing, Sunrise Yoga and Boat Trips

Datça is one of the few places in Turkey where walking boots, a dive mask and a yoga mat all earn their place in the suitcase. You can start the day with sunrise yoga at Knidos, dive off Palamutbükü before lunch, catch the afternoon meltem on a windsurf board and walk a stretch of the Carian Trail the next morning. This guide sets out what Mavi Transfer's Datça activities actually include (duration, location, what you need and how you pay), plus sea temperatures, wind patterns, the best months and a sample three-day plan.
Is Datça good for an active holiday?
Yes, especially if you like your activity outdoors and unhurried. The peninsula is a long, narrow finger of land where the Aegean meets the Mediterranean. According to Hürriyet Daily News it has 52 coves and inlets, and the ancient city of Knidos sits about 33 km from Datça town at the very tip. That geography gives you sheltered, clear bays for diving and boat days, and a reliable summer wind for windsurfing.
Diving: half day, around Palamutbükü and Knidos
Windsurfing: 2–3 hour sessions, choose your level
Sunrise yoga: 75 minutes in the bay at Knidos
Daily bay boats: 7–8 hours with swim stops
Hiking and cycling: Carian Trail sections and peninsula roads, best in spring and autumn
Everything bookable is listed on the Datça activities page. The calendar only shows dates that still have space, so a greyed-out session is full.
Scuba diving in Datça: Palamutbükü and Knidos
The Datça diving trip is a half-day outing to dive sites at Palamutbükü and Knidos. When you book you'll be asked for your diving certification and a short health note, and payment is taken after your request is confirmed. The page doesn't list price, kit or a meeting point, so expect those details once your request is accepted.
Water temperature and visibility
Long-term averages from Weather2Travel put the sea at Datça at roughly 22°C in June, 24°C in July, 25°C in August and September and 23°C in October, dropping to 16–17°C in March and April. In practice that makes late June to October the comfortable window; in May or November you'll want a thicker wetsuit. Local dive centres praise the clarity of the bays, but visibility changes with wind and swell, and morning dives are usually calmer than afternoons when the meltem picks up.

Flying home? DAN recommends at least 12 hours between a single no-decompression dive and flying, and at least 18 hours after multiple dives or multi-day diving (DAN flying-after-diving guidelines). Book your dive at least a full day before your airport transfer.
Windsurfing in Datça and the meltem season
Datça windsurfing sessions last 2–3 hours. You pick your level when booking, equipment hire is optional and you pay on site. If you're not bringing your own board and rig, remember to tick the equipment option.
When does the meltem blow, and how strong is it?
The meltem (meltemi in Greek) is the Aegean's summer northerly. SailingIssues, a sailing reference site, notes that most meltem days fall between June and September, with July and August the strongest and most persistent. Typical daytime strength is Force 4–5 (11–21 knots), reaching Force 5–7 in stronger spells. It usually builds in the early afternoon and drops off around sunset.
Beginners: mornings, plus May–June and late September–October, when the breeze is gentler.
Intermediate and advanced: July–August afternoons are prime time.
A strong meltem can blow for several days in a row, so keep a spare day in your plan.
On the windiest days, bays sheltered by hills from the north, such as Kargı, are calmer for swimming.
Sunrise yoga at Knidos

Sunrise yoga at Knidos is a 75-minute session held in the bay at Knidos. No passport needed, just your name and phone number, and you pay on site. As it's timed to sunrise you'll be up very early: Knidos is at the far western tip of the peninsula, reached by a winding road from Datça town.
Afterwards it makes sense to stay on and explore the ancient city: the theatre, the twin harbours and the Deveboynu lighthouse headland. For access, practicalities and what to see, read our Knidos guide.
Boat days: Datça bays and a Symi hop

Datça daily boat trips run for 7–8 hours, visiting bays with swim stops along the way. The booking form has fields for hotel pick-up and dietary or allergy notes, which is handy with children. There's no deposit, you pay on board; as of 2026 the page shows a starting price of ₺1,500. For a bay-by-bay rundown, see the most beautiful bays of Datça.
Fancy a day on a Greek island? Symi boat tours from Datça run as day trips or with an overnight stay. You'll need your passport (and a Schengen visa if your nationality requires one), and the booking is secured with a deposit.
Hiking the Carian Trail on the Datça peninsula
The Carian Trail is one of Turkey's longest waymarked walking routes, around 820 km in total, with roughly 240 km on the Datça peninsula. Look for red-and-white stripes. The Datça section starts at Eski Datça (Old Datça), loops around the tip via Knidos and continues all the way to Akyaka.
Stages listed on the official site include:
Eski Datça – Hızırşah – Domuzçukuru: pine and almond country, a good gentle first walk
Domuzçukuru – Hayıtbükü – Palamutbükü: down to the coves of the south coast
Palamutbükü – Belen – Knidos: for walking into the ancient city
Knidos – Değirmenbükü – Mersincik: a wild, roadless northern shore
Stage details and GPX files are on the official Carian Trail website. There's no accommodation at Knidos; Palamutbükü is the nearest base. Midsummer is too hot for most stages, so aim for April–June or September–November. Open fires are banned on the trail.
Cycling around Datça
The peninsula has one main road with village lanes branching off it. Heading west from Datça towards Palamutbükü and Knidos the road is constantly up and down; shorter loops around Eski Datça, Reşadiye and Hızırşah suit families and casual riders. In high summer there's more traffic, little shade and fierce midday heat. We'd ride in April–May or October–November, set off early and carry plenty of water and a helmet. The Carian Trail site also offers cycling GPX files for some sections.
Best months for each activity

Hiking (Carian Trail) | April – June, September – November | Midsummer is too hot |

The activity pages don't publish season dates, so treat the open days in the booking calendar as the final word.
